Today I was a mom …
actually, every day I am a mom, but I will be honest…that work/life balance can be so hard sometimes.
I am not complaining…I am extremely grateful that business has been busy. We have been in the midst of Fall photography season, which is unreal at times. So many days I begin before sunrise and arrive home after sunset, and edit until the wee hours of the morning until I can no longer hold my eyes open and this cycle repeats day after day during this time. And while that is necessary this time of year to keep up with the workflow of the business, it leaves some things lacking on the home front, if I am honest.
And this is where my heart hurts…
As a mom, there are many times I feel discouraged trying to balance operating a small business and being “present” with my family. While my children are older, this has been their lives for the past 10 years and sometimes it takes a toll.
So a good portion of today has been spent being a mom, even older children need a mom (often more than we realize). Because all the things that are left undone in the throes of busy season, they don’t go away just because I am busy…in fact, they multiply. And today was dedicated to managing all those things, getting things back on the right track, and investing in my biggest investment- my family.
And while I did get pulled into the business side of things many times today, I was intentional to be present and care for the things have have been neglected. We all need a day (or more sometimes) to recharge and get back on track. Today was that day.
So to all the mommas out there struggling to spread yourself in every area of need - I feel you, I am you. But know this, you’ve got this! God created you to be exactly what each of your children needs in life and He gave you the ability and the gifts needed to love, nurture, care for and provide for your family in a special way that only you can.
Lately I have been reminded of this verse:
Luke 12:48
… For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required
I have no complaints … I have been greatly blessed with my family and business and while it requires a lot to keep everything going, it is worth it a million times over … so on this Monday after Thanksgiving, I want to say my heart is so full and I am ever so grateful for each and every blessing bestowed upon me and my family.
And speaking of Thanksgiving, I had the honor of capturing many family portraits over the holiday weekend, and this family came all the way from Ohio!
Here is a sweet capture of this beautiful momma and her children, stay tuned for a peek at the rest of their photo shoot soon …
