I am often asked “What is my favorite season to shoot outdoors?”
If you read the title of this blog, you may think the answer is Fall… but, no…
Fall is my favorite season in general, but not my favorite season to shoot outdoors.
The images above was taken in the peak of Winter - and it’s one of my favorites. The golden/brown hues of vegetation, coupled with the right lighting actually look a little dreamy, like a fairytale at times. Winter can have a beautiful pastel light tone and makes for the perfect, soft look for portraits.
But Winter is not my favorite season to shoot outdoors either …
truth is, I love shooting outdoors any season of the year. There is something so beautiful about outdoor photography. Other than newborns, outdoor portraits are always my first suggestion unless temperatures are brutal outside. I don’t really have a cut off date for outdoor portraits because North Carolina weather varies so much, just yesterday, in the middle of December, we enjoyed gorgeous 69 degree weather.
There are a lot of factors that are involved with shooting outdoors, so we work hand in hand with clients to ensure it’s the best choice for them. We definitely have a large studio space available when we need to be indoors.
